Before my visit, it would be helpful if you could do the following:

  • Give me a call if you are aware of any problems relating to your appliance and installation and we can talk it through. I will advise you on the day of any faulty components and potentially dangerous issues if and when I come across them. I may be able to put them right during my visit.

  • Make sure the appliance/fireplace has not been used for at least twelve hours prior to your appointment. I will be unable to sweep a hot appliance and flue.

  • Remove all soot and ash from your appliance/fireplace. I don’t expect the appliance to be spotless but I also don’t want to remove lots of ash from the appliance/fireplace before I begin my work.

  • Clear as large an area as possible in front of your appliance (at least two metres by two metres) and move any valuable objects from the work area. I will work carefully and ensure that the route from your door to the work area and the work area itself are protected.

  • Please make sure any pets or inquisitive small children are in a different room while I am setting up, sweeping and clearing away. Children, animals and soot don’t mix …

  • Make sure you are going to be in or have made arrangements for me to access your property. I don’t want you to incur a call out fee because I am unable to sweep as planned.
